Seperate URL for Web and RPC for EV 8 Remote access

 Hi,

We have published the EV 8, over Bluecoat proxy and users need to authenticate before getting-into Corporate network(First layer security, and its not AD Authentication) and then users prompted for AD authentication for EV.

Since first level security is based on Web page prompt, users authenticate and get access to EV later on, with another password prompt.
There is no problem for the users to access Archive Explorer or Search Vault under this method.

We are having trouble with Vault Cache functionality, since EV tries to connect directly, and it fails to understand first layer security.

First layer security is a must for all Web based applications, and we can try to get an exception for EV RPC over HTTP URL to bypass first layer security, if its not meant for Web based access.

Now my question is can we maintain two separate URLs. One for Web access and other RPC? If yes, We can have a separate URL for RPC access, to make Vault Cache work.

We have EV 4 servers, and we have published one of the server to Web, and this server is proxying the requests to correct EV server. Will the similar functionality retained for Vault Cache function?

Thanks in advance.

Narayana

 What version of Exchange are

What version of Exchange are you running - if it is Exchange 2003 - you can set the mailbox policy to use Proxy - and this will route via the Frontend/Backend Exchange servers.

If you are using Exchange 2007, different story - this technote may be of help to you - support.veritas.com/docs/316191

its Exchange 2007

Thanks for the response.

We are using Exchange 2007 SP1. Will set the RPC connection to Direct.

What is the importance of Web App URL? Currently its set to blank.

But have configured External URL using Web.config on CAS servers.

Thanks
Narayana

The webapp URL you refer to

The webapp URL you refer to in the Mailbox Policy is used for multi-site access.

The Default Webapp URL specified in the technote - and from the Site Properties in the VAC is used by just about every single client operation to talk to the EV server - it is also used to generate shortcut links etc.

External URL is only used for OWA2007 - RPC/HTTP does not use it.

We have a single EV site. Can

We have a single EV site. Can we leave that to be Blank?

And, Setting policy setting for RPC over HTTP to 'Direct'. have any impact on Mail Archival/restore functions while using RPC?

Does this setting requires RPC users to resolve internal server names, while connected using RPC?

Yep, leave it blank. Yes, the

Yep, leave it blank.

Yes, the clients will need to be able to resolve the internal server names whilst connected using RPC.

Hi,We have now upgraded EV

Hi,

We have now upgraded EV 8.0 with SP3 to Exchange 2007 users.

We need to make Vault Cache and Virtual Vault featurs made available to internet users(RPC Over HTTP). I believe users need to resolve the EV internal server names for this purpose, is it changed in SP3?

And also, as discussed earlier on this is topic,  it possible to have two separate URLs for Internal  & external EV access?

Thanks
Narayana
