What's the final verdict? Does SEPM work on server 2008 x64?
I'm happy to report that upgrading to MR2 seems to go quite well! Hopefully SEP will now work as advertised without any serious issues.

SEPM is not currently supported on Windows Server 2008.

Good day to you Mr. Murgatroyd,

Thank you for the update and info.

What is the recommendation for supporting Server 2008?

What should we be installing on the 2008 flavor of servers.

Please advise.

Thank you,

If all you want is to protect your Windows Server 2008 servers, then SEP Client MR2 will install, work fine and is supported on Windows Server 2008.

As I said in my previous post however, SEPM is not support on Windows Server 2008 and the installation process will not allow the installation to continue if 2008 is detected.

Hi Paul,

Just got notice of SEPM 11.0.2 and still no support for SEPM on Server 2008. What a waste. When will SEPM support Server 2008? I have only one Server 2003 system running in my enviroment and Symantec is holding up my migration to 2008.

Thanks,
Niles

Support for SEPM on 2008 is being worked on.  One thing you can do for now is to run SEPM on a VM install of server 2003 on your 2008 box.

Just a quick note. I have been running the SEP client on Windows 2008 without issues for sometime now. My SEPM server however is still Windows 2003 R2. On a side note, I also run it on Windows Server CORE and if interested, you can push the sep client to core installs after allowing remote administration to the core server via netsh. You can also allow icmp replies if needbe

netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="Remote Administration" new enable=yes
netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8

Thanks
