  • 1.  SEPM 11.0.4000 upgrade unable to open attachments in outlook2002

    after upgrading our SEPM from 11.0.2000 to 11.0.4000 some of your end users are unable to open attachments in MS Outlook 2002.
    There is no error message or indication that the attachment was blocked.

    The email shows the attachment but when you click the attachment to open it it will sometime ask you if you want to open or save.
    1) If you click on open the screen blinks and nothing happens. There is not indication the attachment is being blocked.
    2) if you click on save a windows pops up and ask you to select a location to save attachments. However, it never save the attachment is selected location or any location for that matter.

    This problem is only affecting a few end users and not the mass but I have not been able to resolve the problem.
    I tried doing the registry hack for Local1Remove but it does not resolve the issue.

    I am fresh out of ideas and need a fresh opinion on what to try next.

    Have you tried upgrading to Office XP Service Pack 3?

    The machines are updated with service pack 3 both for windows and office.

    I also updated my SEPM and Clients to version 11.0.4202.75.  Still problem has not been resolved.

    By chance do the attachments have special characters in the file names?

     I am having the same issue - Outlook on some machines will not open attachments.  On some machines, Outlook just locks up.  I have other machines running the same version of Outlook  (2003 - 11.8217.8221 SP3) and both SEPM and Clients are version 11.042072 on all machines, yet some machines act differently.  I do not have the problem on my workstation, so I had the e-mail with the attachments sent to me.  I can open them without any problems.  Some of the files do have a . in them, yet there are others that don't have any special characters and they are also a problem for the machines that have an issue.  Please Help.

    and can be removed without any loss of security functionality, as autoprotect will scan any attachments before they can be opened.

    As a workaround you can disable the AntiVirus Outlook plug-in. The location will vary depending on which Office suite you are using. In this example we will be using the path in Office XP:

    In Outlook click Tools > Options.
    Click Other tab.
    Under General section click Advanced Options.
    Click Add-In Manager.
    Uncheck Symantec Antivirus Outlook Protection.
    Click OK.
    Click OK.
    Click OK.
