    Hello Everyone,

Thanks in advance for your help.

Running Windows SBS 2008 with SEPM (11.0.4014.26) running on the server.

Clients are all Windows XP SP3.

For the past couple months clients have been failing to update, or randomly updating, not all machines are running with the most up to date versions of threat protection.  On the Server side, it fails to connect with the reporting server, or sometimes fail to login to the admin console (only way to fix is reboot the server).  Or to get the clients to update, reboot the server.

I noticed that there is a new version of SEPM (11.0.6 MP2), which has been downloaded.  Figure as opposed to trying to sort out of the above mess, maybe it would be just easier to install the lastest version.

So here is where I need the communities thoughts.  I would prefer to uninstall the old version and install the new version, however, should I do this, will this cause any challenges for the clients? Will they automatically update to the new version?  Or does the software need to be reinstalled on the clients?  Or will something out of the order and random occur?

I am open to other ideas as well, however, my primary goal is to make sure I find a way to update the SEPM on the server.

    Thanks to all.

    Hi Dalger,

It will not create any issue for clients and it is advised to update to the newest version. However, the clients will not upgrade automatically - but no worries, you will set upgradxe from clients in the console.

    1. First of all download from https://fileconnect.symantec.com two files: version RU6a and version RU6 MP2.

    2. Follow this document:
Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6 (RU6)
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH131787&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1292229253752

to migrate your SEPM to RU6a.

    3. Do the same with:
Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6200 (RU6 MP2)
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH145428

Actually both migration procedures will be almost the same ;-)

    4. Finally go on with clients upgrade:
    Upgrading clients by using AutoUpgrade
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO26749

Let us know if you have any douts, problems :-)

OKay, so I logged in to check for the version that you had recommended above, and I do not see that.

I should update you on something here as well, this is the Enterprise, not SMB version, my apologies for that.

    Would this make a difference?

    Thanks again

If you login to fileconnect and choose International English, what files can you see?

Please see the attached screenshot.  it was filtered to only show end point, unless my serial number is outdated that I am using to access the system???

We do pay annual maintenance for all of our symantec products if that makes a difference.

You will want to download both DVD zips, as you must go from MR4 MP1a to RU6a (the second one listed) to RU6 MP2 (the first one listed).

    Hi,

Pawel - that is the version that I did download, thanks for clarifying though.

Sandra.g is now stating that I need to upgrade to the previous version, and then to the new version?

To clarify on this, even though I will be uninstalling the old version and then installing the new version of the software, I am still required to upgrade?

    Thanks again

you are uninstalling the older version; so start a fresh install of this version; no upgrade is needed.

    Check out this thread:

you will see how you can migrate and which way is not recommended.

    Rafeeq is correct.

    • If you are uninstalling completely and reinstalling fresh, you can do so with RU6 MP2.
    • If you intend on migrating up (that is to say, upgrade), then you have to step up from where you are to RU6 to the maintenance patch for that release update.  Similarly, if youare planning on doing a disaster recovery with a backed-up database, you have to start by installing the same build version from which your database backup was taken.

If you look at the supported migration (upgrade) path in the document below, you will see the only supported path to RU6 MP2 is also an RU6 build.

    Hello to everyone,

So to clarify with the above statements that everyone has made....

    1)  I can uninstall my current SEPM and do a fresh install of 11.0.6 MP2 without any challenges.

    2)  I can use the upgradxe process that Pawel explained above to upgrade the clients?

    Thanks again

Sorry to repeat but it is just easier. See:

    RU6 MP1/2 migration: FAQ
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sepm-6

    Everything should be clear :-)

If you have any particular question, let us know.

    >> 1)  I can uninstall my current SEPM and do a fresh install of 11.0.6 MP2 without any challenges.

    Yes.

    >>2)  I can use the upgradxe process that Pawel explained above to upgrade the clients?

What process you have on your mind? Autoupgrade should work fine :) What clients you want to upgrade?
