This issue has been solved. See solution.

In one of the unfortunate event, the SEPM is locked due to repeatative wrong password attempts.

Please advice how to recover/reset the password. There is only one user that is created in the SEPM.

Resetpassword.bat

Good morning,

In the installation folder of SEPM, [c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools] by default there is a BATCH FILE called: "reset password.bat"

Running this tool will reset your password to the default unless you specify otherwise.

I don't know if the above

I don't know if the above works or not. According to our knowledge base however you need to call in to tech support and they can provide you with a password recovery tool. The KB is here and it goes over how to get the tool and how to use it. Hope this helps if the post above did not work.

Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : )

Resetpass will work well, Provided......

The resetpass.bat will work too.

But since your account is locked, You will have to wait for 30 mins without trying again for the query to work.

Just for your information, It picks up the ticker from the system clock, So you can mess with it if it's a test environment but definately not if you are in production by now.

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"

hi tejas             jasson

hi tejas
jasson is right . According to symantec it should work and reset the password to admin.

I have never tried but you can as you need this now.
If you get success then please do inform in this forum.

c:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools] by default there is a BATCH FILE called: "reset password.bat"

And after the recovery,

And after the recovery,
please try to enroll another admin account so not to have the same issue again.
Better to lift a suspended ID than doing that manually.

Just a simple precution.

Thanks.

Another Fix

For future references, another thing to check is to make sure the SEPM service is running.  You will get an error at login similiar to inputting an incorrect password.

Please, be more detailed

Hi,

if you come back to an old and resolved discussion to add another suggestion, please, be more detailed.
I know what you mean, the message:
"
Failed to connect to the server.
Make sure that the server is running and your session has not timed out.
If you can reach the server but cannot log on, make sure that you provided the correct parameters.
If you are experiencing network issues, contact your system administrator.
"

leads people to believe their credential are wrong, but it is a totally different issue, as you wrote, the service is not running.

The wrong credentials causes the "Authentication Failure".

If you don't help to clearly distinguish the two messages by mentioning them, your post is useless and can create further confusion.

Regards,

Giuseppe
