Hi I have sql server running on 2003 server. Our payroll program uses sql server 2008 and is also installed on this server. I have three workstation from payroll department using the payroll program.

I recently installed SEPM 12 on this server and has been hampering sql server 2008. Whe I checked ODBC data source administrator I see that SQL Server is disabled.

How do I bypass this. I am new to SEPM. Please can someone assist. Can this problem be resolved through SEPM firewall and can you guide me step by step.

    Much appreciated

Do you have the firewall component installed? What exactly isbeing blocked? Can you check the traffic log on the client and see whats there?

    Hi Brian,

Yes Firewall has been installed. I have a payroll program installed on the server running with Microsoft SQL server 2008. When I run this program I get a connection error.

I checked ODBC data source administrator I see that SQL Server is disabled. I realised that SEPM blocked this. Also I noticed I have denied access with some word and excel files on the server

The SEP firewall would block connections but won't block opening files. This is a permissions issue.

Can you check the traffic log to see what is being blocked?

You may just need to open the correct ports

Hi Bryan, sorry I had to do an errand. This is an embarrasing question where can I find the traffic log. I at the Firewall Policies menu

In the SEPM go to the Monitors page, on the Logs tab

Set the log type to Network Threat Protection

Set the Log content to Traffic

You can filter by computer name as well.

You may need to check the logs on the client as well. The opther issue is if you check your firewall policy, the two firewall rules that may be blocking traffic are not set to log. The last two rules at the bottom.

If you disable the SEP fw, does it work?
