SEPM 12 license activation/renewal Q
Created: 26 Sep 2012 | 10 comments
We have recently received ONE license file with activation and renewal licenses(as described in supplied pdf file).
I've done activation using license file through Admin> licenses> activate license> activate a new license> I have Symantec License file(.slf)
It didn't preformed license renewal, just added all as new licenses("activated" all of them). Now Licensing report shows me all licenses "old" that will expire soon and new licenses.
What are the steps to be don to perform activation of new licenses and renewal of existing ones correctly? Should I perform any additioanl or corrective steps?

Hello,
Is the older License Expired?
If yes, you could delete the old License from the SEPM and install the Latest one only.
When your current license is about to expire, the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) begins sending license expiration notifications to the Symantec Endpoint Protection administrator. Symantec highly recommends that you renew your license before it expires.
When you renew a license, the expired license is removed and is replaced with a new license.

Thanks a lot guys for your quick replies!
The old licenses are about to exprie.
I've allready looked through all those articles. Ufortunately I din't found answer to my question.
The problem is that, LICENSE FILE contains both renewal and new licenses information.
What should be the decision making process, what steps should be performed when license file contains both activation and renewasl licenses?
Have you removed Your Old License file ?

Hello,
To answer your question, "What should be the decision making process, what steps should be performed when license file contains both activation and renewasl licenses?"
It is important to understand how much is the time leftover in the earlier license. Once, you have the previous license expired, you may go ahead delete the older License and inserting the new license in the SEPM. Once done, you may go ahead and activate the same on the symantec Licensing site.
Note: You must have an active internet connection and be able to reach the Symantec Licensing Server located at: https://tus1gwynwapex01.symantec.com/. If connectivity is successful, it will redirect to the Symantec Endpoint Protection web site.

Part of those Licenses are about to expire(actually part of them will expire tomorrow)
Hello,
What about the others remaining Licenses? Would they Expire within 30 days of time?
If yes, then I would suggest you could let all the License Expire and get all the Latest License installed and activated at the same time.
Incase, you do not want to go with the above plan, then the New License is that 1 single License for all client machines or broken into a number of licenses?
Again, to understand, In SEP 12.1 EE there is a Soft Enforcement, there is nothing to worry as even after the end date the capability of submitting samples and data to Insight is revoked but the content updates are still available. The client works as usual, no warning on the client side.
There are two types of enforcement:
1) Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition
2) Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition
Hope that helps!!

Well, if it is related to the server licensing, I just need to call my account manager from the software suppplier to get me the .SLF file to be imported to my SEPM server.
