SEPM 12.1.4104.4130 and Java

  • 1.  SEPM 12.1.4104.4130 and Java

    Posted Dec 29, 2014 12:16 PM

    Hello,

We have running SEPM 12.1.4104.4130 under Windows 2008 R2 server. In the last couple of days we started receving the following notifications:

    Server health status: poor.
Reason: Memory on your Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server is running low.
Status reported on Dec 28, 2014 8:15:03 PM.

I was checking the server and I have noticed that Semsvc.exe and dbsrv12.exe are the bigger consumers in memory. When I have the console opened, the memory use go up to 65% (Server has 2GB). Is that normal?

Also, we have Java version 7 Update 51 in the server, can we upgrade that version to the latest one? or SEPM 12.1.4104.4130 only works with that version of Java?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Francisco

What are the specs on your SEPM? Also, if you're not actively in the console it's best to close it or use the remote console (download from http://<sepmname>:9090). And yes, you can upgrade your Java version.

Also, you should upgrade to the latest version, 12.1.5.

from the control pannel, open JAVA and disable the certification revocation option.

    https://www.java.com/en/download/help/revocation_options.xml

    Or

Openn a browser on the computer where the remote console is installed, navigate to the web access page on the server where Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is installed. URL:

    http://<SEPM_IP_address>:9090

Download the remote console from this page. The correct Java version will be installed.

Thank you Brian for your quick answer.

    - We have SEPM running in a VMware VM 2GB RAM, 60GB, Intel Xeon CPU E5-2620 @ 2Gz (2 processors).

    - We don't really use the local console, most of the monitoring is done using the remore console

    - Great! I thought the version of Java was attached to the version of SEPM, since Java is installed inside c:\\program files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\jre\bin

Recommended amount should be 4GB. 2GB is the min but you will see slower performance. Can you increase? How many clients do you have connecting to it?

    Thank you Rafeeq,

I just wanted to know if I can upgrade the Java version in the SEPM server. I know you can download the correct version from there, but that is the version stored in the server.

Specifically I do not suggest to upgrade the Java, its known to break the console. does it take longer to load or higher CPU?

Launching the remote Java-based Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console takes significantly longer with version 12.1 RU4

We have 70 clients. I will increase the memory to 4GB

    Thank you again!

Try that and see what the result is. Hopefully, that's all that is needed. You may want to consider upgrading to 12.1.5 as well.

Please check back if you need guidance.

    Thanks,
    Brian
