  • 1.  SEPM 12.1.5 Will not start

    Posted Feb 10, 2015 09:08 AM

Hello all. I'm having some trouble getting the SEPM 12.1.5 to start on our server.

We're running a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, fully up-to-date server. When we try to launch the SEPM we receive the following:

Failed to connect to the server.
Make sure that the server is running and your session has not timed out.
If you can reach the server but cannot log on, make sure that you provided the correct parameters.
If you are experiencing network issues, contact your system administrator.

When I open the services window, I see that both the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, and Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Webserver are both not running.

When I try to start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service, I receive the following:

Windows could not start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service on Local Computer.
Errror 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

When I try to start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Webserver, I receive the following:

Windows could not start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Webserver on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1.

When I check the Event Viewer I see the following errors:

Error: Apache Service, Event ID 3299
The Apache service named reported the following error:
    >>> Invalid command 'Order', perhaps mispelled or defined by a module not included included in the server configuration.

Error: Apache Service, Event ID 3229
The Apache service named reported the following error:
    >>> AH00526: Syntax error on line 196 of C:/Program Files (x86)/Symantec/Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager/apache/conf/httpd.conf: .

If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated!

    -Adam

    Open services.msc

naviage to SEPM and SEPM web serives, change the log on as SYSTEM, start both the services.

check if you are able to start those, if they fail post the full SCM-server0.log

    Brian,

Thanks for your suggestion. I've attempted both solutions. The first document did not result in a positive outcome. I attempted the second document you posted, and can confirm that it also did not resolve the issues.

    Thanks!

I was able to get the services started by utilizing the httpd.conf.new and ssl.conf.new files. However, I'm still unable to log into SEPM.

I now receive the following when logging into SEPM:

Failed to connect to the server.
Make sure that the server is running and your session has not timed out.
If you can reach the server but cannot log on, make sure you provided the correct parameters.
If you are experiencing network issues, contact your system administrator.

I then receive the following in the Application Event Log:

    Information. Semsrv Event ID 1

The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of 0, the service is being stopped.

    Information. Semsrv Event ID 5

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is terminating in response to a 'stop' request from the Service Control Manager. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.

    Any new thoughts?

This is not a full logs ?

    Information. Semsrv Event ID 1

The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of 0, the service is being stopped.

    Try this Solution

    Solution

    1. Browse to conf.properties by navigating through

    %Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\conf.properties
    2. Edit Conf.properties
    3. Add scm.db.datasource= jdbc/metadatabase at the last line (There will be a space after the equal sign)
    4. Save the file

    Execute Management Configuration Wizard.

Once the Management Configuration is complete. Symantec Endpoint Manager services would be started and you should be able to login to SEPM console

Event ID 4096 Java -1 error in event viewer, SEPM service will not stay in started state. "Failed to connect to server" message during login to SEPM.
