Hi Guys

I have a fairly straightforward couple of questions that hopefully you can help clarify. I have read alot of the documentation online in the knowledge base but it is not clear, my question is

Is the recommended method to create a Custom SQL DB [1] or let the SEPM installation Wizard create the DB for you?  My SQL 2005 server is remote from the SEPM Console.

Will the Install wizard configure the DB and create all the relevent SQL Filegroups?

Also If i choose to manually create my SQL DB as per the instructions [1], then what do i do during the installwizard onthe SQL config screen?

Thanks for your help!

Are you talkinig about

Are you talkinig about letting SEPM create its own internal database or an SQL database?  Also, how many clients are you looking to manage?  If its under 5,000, the integrated database will probably do just fine.

Thanks for the link had not

Thanks for the link had not seet that one yet!

I am going to use SQL. I am talking about whether to create my own custom SQL DB or let let the SEPM install wizard create this for me, which is preferred method? Create the DB manually and specify it in the Wizard ?? Clients will be under 5000 but we are going with SQL anyway.

Thanks

SEPM and SQL 2005

Is the recommended method to create a Custom SQL DB [1] or let the SEPM installation Wizard create the DB for you?  My SQL 2005 server is remote from the SEPM Console.    The prefered option is let the SEPM install wizard create this for you unless you have some database which has a similar name or instance.

In case its a 64 bit machine please follow this link      http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....

Solution

The best way is to let the SEPM installation Wizard create the DB for you...

It creates a DB, user and its tables type. Permission and other things will be taken care...

Once the db is created, you can modify it in MS SQL Management console(You can moved the database files, you can add a log files etc....)

Thanks I went with the wizard

Thanks I went with the wizard and the sql DB created looks fine. My query was really just to ascertain if the wizard would do the same steps as the custom setup instructions.
