SEPM content update needed?

Created: 25 Jan 2013 • Updated: 25 Jan 2013 | 2 comments

Hi there,

We have an older server with limited storage that is running SEPM and all of the clients in that site connect to it and receive policy info from it. The clients are configured to use LiveUpdate and pull definitions from the internet, rather than from SEPM. My question is this. Since the clients are getting content updates from the Internet, does SEPM still need to download and keep content definitions on the server? Is there a way to disable the downloading of content on to the SEPM server?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Assuming clients never get defs from the SEPM than it may not be a problem but I'm not sure you can disable updates to the SEPM.

You can reduce the number of content revisions to keeps, set it to 1

- You can configure disk space management for downloads and lower the amount of definition revisions kept on sepm

- Definitely deselect the option for "Store client packages unzipped to provide better network performance for upgrades"

- Remove old client installation packages

- Limit the amount of client logs kept on SEPM

- If you want to completely disable Liveupdate downloads to SEPM - you can choose internal Liveupdate Server and as address put some dummy IP address (like 1.1.1.1) - SEPM will never get connected and won't be download any definitions - probably not a very clean method but working, btw. the download schedule can be adjusted here as well up to max -> weekly.
