Hi,
It's possible to convert the database from embedded to SQL
Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager: Moving from the embedded database to Microsoft SQL Server
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102547.
Embedded database support upto 5000 clients while SQL can support more than 80,000 clients per SEPM.

Hi, be carefull about your SQL server capacity. If this serveur is too small, your SEPM server will be slow.
As an exemple, I manage about 50000 clients, my SQL server got 16 Go Ram, 2 Xeon 2.16 Ghz with 4 core each. This configuration let SQL to be efficient, with enough RAM to load half the database in memory and the 8 Core are enought sized to compute large SQL request, in the morning when all clients boots up.
Cheers.
Olivier.
