SEPM Definition retention vrs drive space
I have been working with support to no avail so figured I would ask on here and see what people have to say.
In our environment I have to deal with 13 (soon to be 14) SEPMs there are 7 sites and each one is loadbalanced (with the exception of one which is about to be) this was mainly done due to geography and making sure someone was communicating to a sever somewhat "local" to them. Of course in the SEPM world multiple SEPM management is a bit klunky and seems to have some issues.
My biggest issue however is one that someone who even has a single SEPM may be able to help me with.
I have my definition retention set to 30 revisions. Yet my SEPMs insist on keeping over 35+ revisions in their respective folders. If I change and drop it down it still keeps the same 35+ retention under each ID folder. If I bump it up it raises but then won't go below 35 or so when I move it back down again. If I delete them out and live update it retains back to this 35ish number (varies from about 35-39 on different SEPMs).
Now along with this I have the update set to not apply things zipped for better client performance. And in ALL of these definitions I have both a zipped file AND the fully uncompressed version.
So now I am at where I have 35 definitions when I only want 30. Also I am at both a zipped and a expanded version of each definition essentially making a 110 meg directory become 179 megs due to the kept full.zip
Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\content\ - is about 25 gigs and I am trying to weed it down but nothing in the SEPM settings nor the way "I would like it to function" are helping out. If I just got rid of the zipped content alone I would be gaining back 2.5 gigs worth of space a good 10th of the total space used.
In a perfect world one would think the number of directories in contained in the content\id\ directories would correlate to the number asking to be retained and the zips would not be retained at all if you have it set to distribute the full package instead of the zip to increase performance.
I really can't afford to go back to the server team and have us reallocate more drive size across 14 seperate SEPMs. Does anyone know any tricks to whittle this down and make my SEPM behave without taking up all its drive space?
