At a high level (dunno how much detail you want) it goes like this:

    1. LUA runs Download scheduled task
    2. LUA runs Distribution scheduled task
    3. SEPM runs LiveUpdate scheduled task (while pointing the the LUA Distribution Centre)

There are obviously multiple stages within each step, but these are purely insternal to the process at hand (i.e. the SEPM's LiveUpdate will include the initial check for updates, the download, the processing of defs into the DB, and the population of the content folder.  Not to mention the subsequent steps where the SEPM will receive logs from clients, calculate and create deltas (in the content folder), and tell the clients to download them).

    Hello,

what i'm looking for is the workflow of files on the SEPM when a Liveupdate to internal LUA starts.

=> which folders are used to download, prepare and publish in Content ?

    Regards

Oh... Yes ! Thanks for the refresh..

However I notice that the Download folder on the SEPM linked to the LUA is very small...  Only livetri.zip files... Does that means that this folder is cleaned of data after database insert or is there a temporary folder to keep the binaries in addition of the livetri files ?

    Regards

Which Downloads folder are you referring to?

If it's the one in the bleow path, then there really should be more than just the minitri file in there.  Even with the purging enabled, the LUA always keeps the latest defs.  If there's nothing in there, then the LUA isn't downloading from the sounds of it.

    <ProgramData>\Symantec\LiveUpdate Administrator\Downloads

On another note, I don't recall if I mentioned it in your other thread, but it not recommended to have both the LUA and the SEPM on the same box, which your last post seems to suggest they might be:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH93409

If they are on the same box, and if the LUA is not downloading anything anyway, then you may wish to consider removing it.

    Hello,

To clarify : My LUA and SEPM are not on the same machine.

LUA downloads updates from internet and SEPM grab updates through the clu-xxx sites.

I understand the main process but don't know why the Download folder on the SEPM is quite empty (juste livetri files). However database contains the full.zip and content folder as well.. That's why I though the download folder on the SEPM (distinct of the LUA server) was purged once database/Content filled..

    Regards

In that case please confirm the full path of the Downloads folder to which you are referring.

If we're talking about the one used by the LU Client on the SEPM (typically using the below path):

    <ProgramData>\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads

Then, is it possible you've reduced the space that the LU client can use as its update cache?  This is configured in Control Panel -> Symantec LiveUpdate -> Update Cache tab.

    Hello,

    folder is C:\ProgramData\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads.

I didn't know this cache option and it seems you're right because Max disk space is set to 10Mo and folder contains 4.5Mo...

I understand now why is my Download folder so small... However, is there a reason to increase the disk space allowed for this cache ? What is the reason that can explain this need ? and what is the impact to have only 10Mo for example ?

    Thanks in advance.
