Endpoint Protection

Hi.

Currenly i am having one SEPM 11.0.5002.333 Server with 4000 to 4500 clients but now i want it upgrade to SEPM 12.1. My old server is implemented on Physical Blade server with Win 2003 standard OS now i want new Upgradred SEPM 12.1 server on Virual Machine with Win 2008 OS. Can any one provide the best solution so all my OLD client and Policies remain same.

This is the best way to complete the upgrade process.

Only one more thing I would like to add i.e upgrade path for you.

It's from SEP 11 RU4 --> SEP 12.1 RU1 --> SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1

You can not directly jump to the latest version i.e SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1

Just to Add on to Chetan's Comment....

Backup the Upgarded SEPM and Prepare your win 2008 Host on VM and restore the Backup.

 SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1 Can Support only SEP 12.1 RU1.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1101.401 (RU1 MP1) can migrate seamlessly over the following:

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1000.157 (RU1)

Direct upgrade is not possible due to schema changes in proudcts.

Due to schema changes the upgrade may failed and lead to database corruption.

Always follow supported upgrade path for the SEPM and SEP clients.

As understand you need to migrate your old SEPM server to new hardware but this need to havea the Hostname and IP address needs to be different

Recommended or the best way is configure the second new server as a replication partner of the existing one.  Then configure the "Management server list to point the clients to the new server.  Keep the setup for sometime so that all clients receives the policy and then delete the replication and de-commission the old server.  Following method will have no downtime and orphan clients

For upgradation you have to upgrade first to SEP 12.1 and then to SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1
