    Posted Dec 08, 2014 12:24 AM

Hello all , Due to a requirement is there any tool or dashboard that I can use that will give the visibility and working status of all of my GUPS in my SEP envoirmenet like whether the GUPs are taking definations from SEPM's or not , whether GUP's are downloading content definations from SEPM's or not GUP's health status etc etc.

The version of SEPM is 12.1.4 and GUP's are running in a mixutre of 12.1.3 and 12.1.4

I have heard about SEP Content Distribution Monitor but want to confirm that does Symantec officially supports this ? secondly is it compatible/ will work with SEPM 12.1.4 ?

would appreciate your kind and prompt responses.

    Regards,

you need to copy all the tool files into the SEPM folder location - "Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools"

    Hi,

    To get the tools working

    1) Following the steps as mentioned in Enable_apache_log which is included in the download package of GUP tool

    2) After that just place the sepm_monitor.jar file and sepmmonitortool.bat file in the Tools folder on the SEPM and run the sepmmonitortool.bat file and the window will open.

    3) Then click sepmmonitortool.bat inside tools folder your good to go.

    Hi,

May i ask what are you trying to achieve by using the GUP monitoring tool?

Is it mandatory to enable " ENABLE_Apache_log " to make it work or simply copy the three files in tools and just run it ?

Actually one of my customer is running several GUP's in there envoirement and they want to have the overall visibility as how much content GUP is downloading from the SEPM's whether the defs on GUPs are current or not , whether the defs are corrupted are client taking defs from GUPs or not things like that

Your options are pretty limited in regards to supported documents.

GUP monitoring tools is the best at the moment.

Just in advance if you would like to know if the client is taking update from the GUP client, check the article below, it will help the administrator in the environment to find if the GUP has reported to SEPM for update.

My this forum is in regard to the following issue which was faced and impacted greatly

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-gup-downloading-large-files-sepm

Please confirm once I enable the Apache loggin would it have any effect in terms of space or performance on SEPM ?

Secondly can I run this tool remotely from any other machine than SEPM ? or is it mandatory to run it from SEPM machine ?

    Regards

AFAIK you cannot run it from a remote machine.

Yes your right there are talks about disk space.

User dimago has coded a script to encounter this you might want to try that, i do not face this issue in my test environment so did not try this tool. I am running 12.1.5.

Apache logs disk size after GUP Monitor Tool

Yes i have i am not an expert but from what i understand it is batch file

Using forfile of windows to delete the .log in %programfiles(x86)%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\apache\logs less than or equal to 60 days.

The editable part of the batch file are the location of your SEPM folder you might want to edit it according to your environment and the day

    In the batch file

    %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\forfiles.exe -p "%programfiles(x86)%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\apache\logs" -m *.log -d -60 -c "cmd /c del @path"

the highlighted "-60" defined the days change it to 15 days or 30 days if 15 days the script should look like

    %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\forfiles.exe -p "%programfiles(x86)%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\apache\logs" -m *.log -d -15 -c "cmd /c del @path"

Save the file as .bat and run it.

I would higly recommend it on a test environment and then run it on production environment to make sure it does not impact your production.
