  • 1.  SEPM - How can I modify or delete current install packages if I have different source files?

    Posted Apr 30, 2012 07:08 PM

    Greetings,

I created an install package within SEPM and now when I try to delete it I can't because it is a current package.  However, I have different source files (but it's still the same verison of SEP) and want to work the current defs in it as well.  I can't find a way to modify the existing file or defs and I can't delete it and start over.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

SEPM doesn't allow the newest package from the package list to be deleted. Only the package with the lower version can be deleted.

    Try this :

    1. Modify the SAV32.info or SAV64.info file inside SEPM\Packages. For every 201393128 change it to 201393129 entry.
    2. Now import the package to the SEPM:
    3. Go to Admin -> Install Packages -> Add Client Install Package and locate the SAV32.info or SAV64.info

Please update the status if this helped to resolve your concern.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Guru

    Hi,

Symantec has released latest version i.e SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1,after successful upgrade you should be able to delete older package. Or you can follow Guru's suggested steps as well.

Upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1101 (RU1 MP1)

    Guru,

I can't find the path you are referring to on my SEP server.  Do you have the exact path it would be located at?  I guess I don't understand fully what you're telling me to do.  Thanks.

Thanks.  That clears it up.  However, the only packages I have on the intall media are 11.0.6000.  I'm trying to get the updated SEPM software, but my institution is a little behind.  That's why I had to import from the exe file.  Of course that's not recommended (but I didn't know that).  I guess I'll have to hope I can get updated software.

    Hi,

if I understood you, you are trying to do this:

    - export current SEP package

    - update the defs in the SEP package

    - import this updated package back into the SEPM

If correct, I don't see reasons for doing it, you will need to export the package again to use it (even the deployment wizards do it at least in the temporary folders).

With the article linked below you will:

    - export current SEP package as non single executable file

    - update the defs in the SEP package

    - make the up-to-date package created above into a single executable file, hence ready for usage without having to import it in and export it from the console again.
