SEPM Install Package Upgrade Schedule behavior

    Hi

I have scheduled an upgrade of our clients to the latest SEP version, this is working perfectly but I have a question:
I have scheduled the upgrade to run over 7 days, what happens if a client is out of the office for 10 days, will the client get upgraded when he/she return?

    /Lasse

Do not schedule update to run over hours/days.

Symantec do recommend to turn off schedulling in the below KB

Client will take the upgrade as and when they are connected to SEPM.

    Thanks for the replies.

    TO Sam:
Didn't know it worked like that. When we first bought SEP it was on version 11 MR2 and the upgrade procedure didn't work that well but have improved since.
So this means that when upgrading clients in the future, just add the new install package and turn of scheduling, then the clients will pull the installation from the SEPM. Is this correct?

    Hi Sam

Do I have to remove the current install package that had the upgrade schedule and add it again without the schedule?

You should be able to edit the client install package in the Clients/Install Packages tab and disable the upgrade schedule.

    Hi Rick and Sam

I had already done as Rick said but how quickly will the clients start to do the upgrade? Is there anyway to "force" the upgrade procedure?

I have the Communications Settings set to Push Mode and the Hearthbeat Interval at 5 minutes.

    Lasse,

You can test the same with 1-2 machines. I hope it will take the upgrade within an hour of machines getting connected to SEPM and also depending upon the bandwith availability.

Recommend you to test the same.

    Hi Lasse,

I'm not sure how the communication settings work with the auto upgrade feature of SEPM.  I would assume that on the next heartbeat the client would perform the upgrade based on how many clients are performing their upgrades now.  I apologize but I don't know where to verify how many connections the SEPM can handle at once by default.

In my opinion, let it run for an hour see how many clients upgraded.  In my experience, the clients upgrade failry quick for those that are online.
