  • 1.  SEPM Java-based management console (remote) question

Maybe not a Symantec specific issue, can't say, but have noticed since upgrading things to 12.1 RU2 - it didn't used to do this.
Perhaps if it's not a Symantec thing, someone here still knows....... open the console on a desktop or whatever, JAVA version, go to policies, for example, click on one and choose edit.

I look and look and see nothing happen.... then look over at my OTHER screen, and there it is.
But I need it in the first screen - where the console is sitting open. So I grab it and drag it back over to the other screen, then choose the bit in the policy that's open in edit mode to make a change - still waiting for the little pop-up where I can add an IP address to the firewall, just as an example.... and waiting, and then find it over on the other screen again!

Drag it back, do my thing, OK to save it, choose to add another address to a different rule in the firewall........... yup, you guessed it. The edit screen, a small thing really, pops up in my other screen and is small and I don't see it for a while, then look over, there it is.

Can I stop this crazy behavour?? I want these things to ALL open in the same screen as I have other stuff open on the other. I have documents and lists and spreadsheets I refer to when editing or configuring SEP vai the console, and the things keep popping up BANG, into the wrong screen.
I want them to open from and in the original screen - where the parent window is.

I launch the console, since the shortcut is on my primary screen, I end up dragging the console over to the second screen,. The resolution there is MUCH better for the console operation. The first or primary is a typical notebook screen - it's small and the resolution very tiny. The second screen is much larger with better resolution to view/read all the stuff going on in the very busy and very crowded SEP console screens.
I would think this would be smart enough to launch any daughter boxes in the same screen it was launched from - the same the mother app is running in.
I'm really almost speechless that the default it's to open in the same screen, it seems absolutely illogical and senseless for the popup to open over on another screen I'm not even looking at or working in.

AND - this all changed with the upgrade to SEP and SEPM 12.1 RU2. The prior versions once the console was dragged to the second screen, all other "windows" or pop-ups also opened there.

I'm on 12.1 RU2 and sort of experience this. New windows open on the same screen (I have 3 mons). However, if I drag the console to another mon and try to edit a policy, the window open on my first monitor. Seems to be that it defaults to the first monitor. I guess you could check your display properties to see what monitor is configured as 1 and move the console to that monitor. Have you tried the other monitor or does it give the same behaviour for both?

I'm not about to switch monitors because this is a notebook, thus, the built-in display, the smaller one with higher resoluition (tiny, hard to read size) is the default and the one windows "boots in". The second display is the one I want the console to run and stay in, I drag it over there, but the daughter windows pop into 1.

Once I drag the running app to 2, I want all of anything to do with it to run there in 2.

It did in the old console before - but when I upgraded the SEPMs to the latest -RU2, and could no longer run the console, the tech at Symantec made me remove Java that the SEPM installation had, install a specific JAVA serverion and then the console upgrade. THEN I could launch the console and get into things. PRior to that, it failed with a cert check and would never get past it even if I checked things.
(they apparently had a note, warning that RU2 came with a bad JAVA according to the tech, so indicated an approved version of JAVA to install first, before launching the console for the first time under RU2 or connecting to an RU2 server)

Since the upgrade, regardless, opening other things in the console results in the daughter or popup appearing in screen 1. I've ALWAYS run the console in screen 2 on all of my computers - this is a first.
