SEPM for MAC

Hello.

I have heard rumors in the past, and am now incapable of dredging up any information on this at the current time.
In the past, I have heard that there was an equivalent SEPM for Mac (apple), and that it required a "dedicated MAC server" in order to run, seeing as how a server could not protect X-platform.

My question thus becomes:
- If this product does exist, does it have "application and device" control capabilities, as does it's PC counterpart?
- What OS does it support?
- Does it matter if the MAC itself is not running on an Intel platform?

Thank you.

there is a SAV10.2 for Mac

there is a SAV10.2 for Mac that runs on OSX Server.

There is no SEP for Mac yet.  File it under SEP11 MR65536.

I'll say it here again because i bug every SE with the same question everytime I see them.  When is it coming?  I'm tired of hearing "on the roadmap", its an empty phrase to me at this point.

Thanks

Thanks Rwessen

I am going to file it under the same category as SEPM 64 A&D control functionality...
It's been on the road map since November of 2007...

Honestly I would let a

Honestly I would let a Symantec Tech Support employee answer this, but I've heard the same rumors you have>  MAC support is ETA this ETA that, with nothing concrete planned. However! I will say that some recent discussions with some Symantec folks shows that the MAC supported SEP client is "suppose" to be coming out at the end of this year.

Don't think your the only one in this boat. With the explosion of Apple, it's a concern Symantec MUST address, and I know a significant amount of developer work is going into this. I have many many clients that are waiting for this support as well. It's crucial.

Sandip, thanks for the link,

Sandip,

thanks for the link, but you are inadvertantly making my point.  If you check the date that article was created it was 11/07.  the last unofficial date I heard was Q4 2009 - Q1 2010 (which is eerily similar to the Q1 2009 figure I was given 10 months before that.......)

I've been hearing unified console (Mac/PC/linux) since around SAV10.0 and that was 2005 i think?

Thanks but...

Thanks Sandip for linking the article.  As Rwessen indicated, the article originally appeared in Q4 - 2007 and was updated in Q1 of 2009.
So essentially for 14 months, we have been being told "it's coming".  There was rumor before that as stated above as well, that back in 2005, it was coming.
If they giving us a timeframe for Q1 of 2010, that is still up to at least 1 more full year.
And that is most likely a tentative date.  Meaning, it may or may not be ready by 2010...
I know there are alot more other important things being worked on in terms of SEP and it's future...
SEP 12 for example has just had it's release and still has not addressed the issues from SEP 11...

I got off the phone with our engineers - it's coming, it's internal now, but coming. The discouraging part was "by this time next year you should see.........." but encouraging to see that they are taking it seriously and it's not just a dream or a "maybe" - resources are being applied.
Mac and Linux from what I heard.
Makes sense - increased market share, increased coverage and profits for Symantec.
