  • 1.  SEPM MR6 and IAS living together?

    Posted Sep 30, 2010 12:28 AM

    Hi All,

We have been running SEP since MR2 on our server and I have upgraded to MR6.

After upgrading to MR6 I noticed in the event logs (saying that I am sure they have been there for while wink)

    Event Type:    Error
    Event Source:    secars
    Event Category:    None
    Event ID:    4097

Failed to start Radius Server. The radius port may be used by another process.

I am currently running IAS on the server and about 30 devices that are configured to authenticate back on IAS using the default port. I really do not want to update the config on all of those devices crying.

    My questions are

    1) Why does SEP need radius?

    2) Is there anyway around the radius errors without changing the default port on IAS?

    Thanks in advance!

    1) Why does SEP need radius?

for authentication including the SNAC authentication.

    2) Is there anyway around the radius errors without changing the default port on IAS?

    those errors

follow this document  to change the port in SEPM

    http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/things-you-can-do-confpropeties-file-and-serverxml-file-sepm

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager uses Radius communication and requires port 1812 to be available for the Enforcer sometimes you will get error message while installing SEPM like
"Error: "Port 1812 is already in use. Stop your Radius server if you have the Enforcer installed." while installing Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager"

To overcome this you need to add this line.

    scm.radius.port=xxxx

Where xxxx is the desired port number
