  • 1.  SEPM page error (it's installed w/ embedded database on XP workstation)

    Posted Sep 15, 2011 12:09 AM

We have a SEPM with embedded database installed on Windows XP SP3 Professional. Recently, we try to upgrade SAV to new SEP 11 for 120 workstations.

After launch new SEP for 10 workstations, we find that we can't load the home, monitors and reports screen correctly on SEPM.

I've read the forum and tried the URL to fix it.

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-create-new-reporting-virtual-directory-iis-manager-troubleshooting-unable-communicate-r
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH103853
    also tried iisreset.

But all cannot help and mostly still get the unexpected error. It will be okay once after restart service. And then the error comes back again.

On SEPM > Admin > Servers. It keeps to appear the following message when use the SEPM.
Unexpected server error. ErrorCode: 0x10010000 [site MG189] [Server: MG189)

Now I face other problem that cannot export package. It appeared windows dialog with red cross and stated that it's preparing

    How should I fix it?
I'm using Server 2003 with SEPM installed on other site and it is very stable for all features. For this case, should I not to install it on XP workstation?
    Thanks.

    Tried reinstall IIS okay

Then do repair but it's rollback and appears serious error during install. And find that no SEP is configured in IIS. It's failed now.

How should I do now? Seems serious now. Please help. Thanks much.

    hi,

yes, I've checked that document and also follow the url.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH102639&locale=en_US

and also don't find c:\windows\system32\iisschlp.wsc file existed.

No matter how I try. It is still roll back while configuring IIS.

The windows XP OS itself is chinese language and I install SEPM english version.

Anyway, I give up now and will install new SEPM on another server 2003 machine. That XP may has problem. Don't feel it is stable even if I can fix it lastly.

Another server 2003 (eng version) machine is the 2nd Server 2003 AD and also act as DHCP role too in internal LAN. Is it okay to install it with SEPM w/ embedded databse too? Thanks much.

    Hello,

Windows XP has a 10 concurrent connection limitation that has been built in by Microsoft.

I would request you to check this Article after Installing SEPM on the XP machine. This guide contains the configuration changes that are necessary to work around this limitation. This is supported for up to 100 clients managed from a single XP SEPM.

TECH91694   Best practices guide for installing the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) on a Windows XP operating system.

    Hope that helps!!
