Hi there, I got an error installing SEPM shortcut on my desktop so I can remotely manage SEPM console. It's complaining my Java 6 update 20 is the wrong version, but I tried uninstalling that and I'm pretty sure I tried a few versions it said and I uninstalled the other one I had, do you recommend one that actually works?

Please make sure all other versions of java are uninstalled and then install java 6 update 7 I believe. This should allow the remote console to work.

I'm disappointed that we need to employ a vulnerable version of Java to get this security product to work.   When will this be corrected?

It is already corrected with the latest version of SEP. 11.0.6 will work with the latest version of java I believe java 6 update 20. When we are creating the builds, we try to use the latest version possible.

Does the SEPM Manager side need to be a higher level than the client that's connecting?  We are running SEPM RU5.... if I install RU6 (and the latest Java) on my desktop, will I be able to connect to the RU5 Managers?    Or is the Java/RU level on the Manager the limiting factor?   Appreciate the clarification.

You don't have to actually uninstall any other versions of Java.

Using the work-around in the attached document, the SEPM will install the necessary version of Java in the users app data folder before it installs the console.

Once that's done,  returning the settings back to where they were allows all the other Java apps to use the versions they used previously while the SEP console will use the version is requires.
