We have a client that need a large Symantec Endpoint Protection implementation in MR4.

    I need to know specifically:

How many sites support SEPM for replications?

How many GUP support a SEPM?

    Regards...

Your only limitation would be the licenses. You can setup 1 GUP per site. If that GUP can't handle the distribution, you can always configure another one. The only problem will be the database replication if this is to be going through a low bandwidth connection. Replication is ideal if they are located in the same switch.

A GUP does not imply SEPM has more work to do, a GUP will relieve SEPM from occupying itself with providing Def updates to SEP clients.
As for replication; keep in mind that you need a considerable amount of bandwidth, if you're thinking about setting up a SEPM server at multiple sites (fairly small, let's say about 1000 clients), think about a GUP (for example a print server) or LiveUpdate Administrator where the can obtain updates from.

    Best of luck!

SEP 11 is unlicensed... you just got a piece of paper as license, no expiration, no serial numbers, etc.
Because GUP means Group Update Provider, you can set a GUP per group. If in a site you have 200 groups, you can set up a GUP per each of them.

That is one post I wish I didn't.
I'm not sure how you monitor the licenses for companies. Employees could get the installers and use it in their homes.

Well, we just trust our enterprise customers. Yes, employees could install SEP in their homes but the SEP client is not as user-friendly as several freeware antiviruses and they will be out of the law and who does not care about the law will hack the license. In this way the honest customers will not meet any technical issue with the license (deploy the license to the clients, have a strict expiration date that could be result in a security hole, etc) and companies honour the contract.
