  • 1.  SEPM RU5 Remote Console failing to install on a Windows 7 Professional 32 bit client

It will not save the shortcut to launch SEPM.
I have already tried turning off UAC, uninstalling and reinstalling SEPM and the same failure error keeps coming up.

I didn't mean installing the actual SEP manager on Windows 7, just the remote console for SEPM.
SEPM console worked fine in a Windows 7 virtual machine, but it isn't installing the shortcut on a physical machine.
SEPM console is running fine and I can log in, but when I close it, there is no local shortcut, so I have to go to the http://server:9090 link to relaunch it each time.

Sounds like a JAVA issue - or even more a permissions issue?
(ok, I won't repeat my pleas for Symantec to get off JAVA and use a real stable secure and fast environment LOL)

Seriously, sounds like it can't install JAVA and finish that to the point of setting up the shortcut.
But it sounds like the console WILL launch from that web shortcut/link and thus communicate with your REAL SEM server (on another OS) and function ok - until you close it, then there's no shortcut?

Yes, I can use the admin console right after installing it, but I don't have any way to relaunch it after closing because the local shortcut was not created.

Have you successfully created other shortcuts on this system?

Not sure if this applies to you, but here is a thread on

You can try recreating the user profile or may be login with a different admin account and then try saving the shortcut to launch SEPM

I logged in as the built-in local Administrator account and launched the install from the 9090 site again.
This time, it prompted asking if I wanted to allow the unsigned software to run, I clicked OK and it created the shortcut to the desktop.
I then copied the same shortcut into the desktop profile for my domain account  and it works.
I'm not sure why the prompt to allow installation was not displayed in my user profile and it just displayed the error saying the shortcut cannot be created instead.
Both accounts are local administrators on the PC.
