SEPM RU7 Disaster recovery
Hello,
I had some issues with upgrading SEPM from RU7 to RU7 MP3 (even after following all steps from Symantec articles for upgrading) and now I have to do a disaster recovery. I have a backup copy of the database (it is embedded) and jks file etc. So my qustions are:
1) If I do fresh install of SEPM RU7 MP3, will it be possible to restore the database which was backed up with SEPM RU7 or the db schema is different or I will need again to install RU7, restore the database and then upgarde to RU7 MP3?
2) In the Disaster recovery steps is written: "You should also use the same settings that you used for other options during the previous
installation, such as Web site creation, database type, and password used for the admin user account".
So regarding the password for the admin account, when I install the SEPM, can I type any password for the initial installation, or should it be the password that I used last time when I was able to login to the SEPM before trying to upgrade it? Because I don't remember what was the password when I time the first time when installing the previous SEPM.
Thanks

I already saw these articles but they don't help me. I am not preparing for upgrade, what I am saying is that I already tried to upgrade but it failed and now I have to do Disaster recovery.

Hello,
Here are the Answers -
1) If I do fresh install of SEPM RU7 MP3, will it be possible to restore the database which was backed up with SEPM RU7 or the db schema is different or I will need again to install RU7, restore the database and then upgarde to RU7 MP3?
NO.. you need to have the same version Database for Disaster Recovery.
In otherwords, you have a backup database of SEP 11.0.RU7, and you have SEPM 11.0.RU7 MP3. Since there Database Schema is different between versions, you would not be able to perform a recovery of Database.
You would require the first password which was used in the first SEPM.
Incase, you do not remember, check these Articles:

Hi,
Could you please update what error you are facing? Why it's needed to perform disaster recovery?
1) If I do fresh install of SEPM RU7 MP3, will it be possible to restore the database which was backed up with SEPM RU7 or the db schema is different or I will need again to install RU7, restore the database and then upgarde to RU7 MP3?
--> Second option is correct i.e. I will need again to install RU7, restore the database and then upgarde to RU7 MP3?
2) In the Disaster recovery steps is written: "You should also use the same settings that you used for other options during the previous
installation, such as Web site creation, database type, and password used for the admin user account".
--> Yes that's correct.
Reinstalling the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
The key task to perform when you reinstall the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is to type the same encryption password you specified during installation
of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on the server that failed. You should also use the same settings that you used for other options during the previous
installation, such as Web site creation, database type, and password used for the admin user account.
Total how many clients do you have in the network?
Is it possible to install fresh SEPM & restore the client communication?

Hello, When I did the fresh installation and tried to do the Disaster recovery and restoring the database, I had some issues, getting error "A connection to the database could not be obtained. Restore cannot be performed". So I opened a ticket with Symantec and the engineer had a look. We found in SEPM/tomcat/logs a file called backup.err where it was showing Access denied to a file in Catalina folder. This file is Root.xml. We gave Full access to everyone to this file and then I was able to do the restore of the database and now everything is working fine. Also I upgraded the SEPM to RU7 MP3, this time without any issues.
