    Hi Guys,

I encounter this SEPprep_Err logs when I'm trying to deploy SEP 12.1 RU3 on windows 8 computer. I've been using SEPprep since SEP 11 RU6 and this is the first time I encounter this error whenever I use it on remote push. Everything works fine on local installation. Any idea?

    Thanks,

Noted. You can use the SEPPrep.ini attached on my previous reply. Hope that helps. I'll re-attach it here if you haven't received it.

    Hi All,

I still working on James' thread, it seems that selecting the parent folder instead of just setup.exe have another behavior. But still im working on it cause the competitive uninstaller won't show any message despite i configure most of the GUI to be enabled and the logs only says that sepprep is starting.

    Hi Guys,

It seems that it doesn't run normally when push deploy using SYSTEM account. Any idea how can i run the program using the administrator instead of SYSTEM via remote push?

    Thanks

    Hello,

    Windows 8 or 8.1?

Note, Windows 8.1 is supported from SEP 12.1 RU4.

    Hi,

It is only windows 8. For SEP_INST logs, I don't have it cause it doesn't even finished the SEPprep. So here is the scenario for a better understanding:

I'm trying to use SEPprep to uninstall any competetive AV on a Windows 8 client (since SEP current built in competitive uninstaller doesn't support windows 8 yet, Am I right?). So after configuring SEPprep.ini and renaming SEPprep.exe then copying it to a non-single package, I get the "SEPprep.ini file is missing" error whenever I use push deployment wizard (PDW) with the option "Deploy self-installing executable". And when I use the other option on PDW which is "Deploy Symantec Endpoint Protection full install or patch" ( this is the one with James thread) it shows that SEPprep is starting but it doesn't realy start. I can only see it started in task manager using SYSTEM account. But when I started it manualy on the windows 8 computer using local Administrator account, it realy works fine. CDW have same problem using PDW. So, I need a way how to start the SEPprep using local Administrator account remotely.

    Regards,

    here are some suggestions:

    On the Client PC

    1) Turn off UAC.

    2) Turn off Simple File Sharing / File Sharing Wizard.

    3) Turn off Windows Firewall.

    • Steps 1 to 3 might be done using GPO

On the SEP Manager if you use the Client Deployment Wizard or the Push Deployment

    4) Include the file SEPPrep.ini within the same location with the renamed SEPPrep.EXE and required install files (whether you use a single EXE package or a non-single package).

    Hope those can help.

Thanks Frank, already did this but no luck. By the way you will need a non-single exe package for sepprep to work. You can test this scenario if you want to see the problem your self.

No worries. I've done that several times before. Of course I have encountered some problems also.

I tried to perform single and non-single EXE packages. I just tweaked on the the SEPPrep.INI and worked so far for me.

Honestly, I haven't tested that on Windows 8, probably I will try that as you suggest because I used it on Windows 2000 to Win 7.
