I am running 64bit Server 2008 standard and Symantec Antirivus corporate edition 10.2.2.2000

Yesterday my XP client machines could not access shared folders. A restart did the fix but I am not sure what caused the problem.

In the log I see that antivirus ran at 5:13 and type of run is "startup". AV was not scheduled to run at that time and server not restarted either, I am not sure what caused the problem then. I found that EndPoint cases problem with shared folder on Server 2008, is that the case with Antivirus as well? IF yes, is there any patch for that? T hanks

I am not pretty sure but i guess it is a network issue which could be caused be firwall policies. Try to configure the bset firwall setting policies.
