This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

I try to use BE 2010 R2 to backup a virtual server 2012, I think it get backup becuse when try to restore the tape see the backup is created but there is a read X on the C drive (server has only on drive) there is no error in the BE logs but I did check the Widows log and came accross this error:

Windows cannot perform an online backup of this system because scoped snapshots are enabled. To resolve this, disable scoped snapshots by creating the following registry value on this computer:
     PATH: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore\
     DWORD: ScopeSnapshots
     Value: 0

can I use BE 2010 R2 to backup virtualize server 2012? if yes can I go ahead and create the above registery?

Unfortunately no. BE 2010 R3 and BE 2012 with a beta Service Pack can backup Server 2012. You should be able to upgrade to BE 2010 R3 at no cost as the licenseing is the same and the keys that you use now would remain the same in 2010 R3

Thanks for your update,

but if I understand you correctly even after upgrade to R3 still we cannot backup the server 2012, becuse still we need the beta version of SP3 is this correct?

Thanks

Yes, you need to upgrade to 2010 R3 first apply all availble updates and patches. Once this is done apply the Beta patch to enable support for backing up Server 2012. So in a nutshell true that only upgrading to 2010 R3 will not help without the Beta patch.

We are expecting the final release of the patch somethime this month.

Shahin: Yes, but BE 2010 R3 is the version of BE 2010 that the patch will be released for...no other version of BE 2010 or prior.

So you'd need to upgrade anyway

Thanks!

Thanks for your info, I will for sure upgrade to R3 but any idea when we can download the RTM version of the SP3 instead of the beta version?

It's all the same. Your current licenses for BE 2010 R2 will work with BE 2010 R3...just grab copies of the Data/Catalogs folders first. Then after upgrading, run LiveUpdate to get the latest patches and push-install these to your remote servers.

Thanks!
