We've been rolling out SEP 12.1RU2 to our new server 2012 infrastructure.  Apart from a few issues, inculding having to install the clients as unmanaged then sylink dropping the settings, everything has went ok....until today.

We have one server which is has a SQL roll, that wont install SEP.  We keep getting the following error "Symantec Endpoint Protection cannot be installed without 32-bit application support"

I've checked to ensure ServerCore-WOW64 is Enabled and confirm that it is.  Apart from that i havent been able to find any futher information, or a solution.

A snippet of the log file from %TEMP%

Info 2835.The control ErrorIcon was not found on dialog SetupError.
Symantec Endpoint Protection cannot be installed without 32-bit application support
MSI (c) (58:98) [17:03:13:554]: Product: Symantec Endpoint Protection -- Symantec Endpoint Protection cannot be installed without 32-bit application support

    Action ended 17:03:13: No32BitSupportError. Return value 3.
    MSI (c) (58:98) [17:03:13:554]: Doing action: SetupCompleteError
    Action 17:03:13: SetupCompleteError.
    Action start 17:03:13: SetupCompleteError.
Info 2898.For TahomaBold10 textstyle, the system created a 'Tahoma' font, in 0 character set.
    Action 17:03:13: SetupCompleteError. Dialog created
    MSI (c) (58:40) [17:03:13:586]: Note: 1: 2731 2: 0
Action ended 17:03:17: SetupCompleteError. Return value 2.

Can upload the rest of the log if needs be.

    Anyone any ideas?

Just to confirm, you are certain you are trying to install the 64bit SEP client on this machine?

If so, I'd recommend uploading the full SEP_INST.log file please

Post the proper log from %temp% (sep_inst.log)

seems like you are trying to install 32bit of SEP on a 64 Bit OS.

Are you sure about the package and OS?

    @technical_specialist Log attached above

@Rafeeq 100% sure its the 64 bit client :).  I came across this post when researching this error which explains about the 64 bit client and why it installs as if its a 32 bit client in Program Files (x86)

Yeah, your log deffo confirms you're running the 64bit SEP Client package, and you're obviously already aware of the ServerCore-WOW64 subsystem.

Quick question then, can you confirm you're trying to install on the supported version of Win2012?  You're not trying to install this on the recently released Win2012R2 by any chance are you (as that's only supported in SEP12.1RU4, as per https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-121-and-windows-81-blue)?

Its a native 32 bit application so it always goes to X86 folder

Is it a package which was exported from SEPM you are having problem with ? Can you try installing from CD1 just to see if it complains the same thing.

Hi Mithun,  see original post smiley.  Thanks for the suggestion.  Any other ideas?

I've checked to ensure ServerCore-WOW64 is Enabled and confirm that it is.  Apart from that i havent been able to find any futher information, or a solution.

Thanks for that suggestion, i'll double check in the morning regarding win version, i'm pretty sure it's not Win2012R2, as all our servers were created from a base image and this is the first out of 40+ servers that i've encountered this problem.

However i'll double check, and let you know.

Thanks, yeah i've tried both a package exported from the SEPM and also the SEPx64 installer from Par 1 of the CD, no luck with either.  I'll double check the version of Win 2012 i'm running in the morning.

    Hi SMLatCST,

Just checked this morning, and we're running Windows Server 2012 Standard edition (Version 6.2).  So it's not the latest Win2012R2, as its version 6.3 i believe.

    Any other ideas? sad

TBH, if the machine is spawned from a stock image, and it's the only one of 40 identically created machines that has encountered an issue, I'd personnaly be more inclined to just reimage the box again.

It'd certainly be quicker than further investigation.  Is this an option?

I think you're right about the reimage it again.  Dont think the SQL chaps will be to happy haha.  Thanks for the advice
