I just set up a new Dell T310 PowerEdge server with Small Business Server 2011.  I installed Symantec Endpoint Protection Manangement Console and everything is looking good.  I created a server deployment package with all the features and pushed it out to the SBS server.  When the server came up after rebooting I received the message "The server is not operational" when I tried to browse the users in the SBS console.  I also tried to open Active Directory Users and Computers and was returned the following error:

Active directory domain services - Naming information cannot be located for the following reason: The server is not operational.

As soon as I uninstall the Symantec client everything works.  Is there a solution for this?

    Hello,

    Is that SEP 12.1.1000 (RU1)?

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12 RU1 is also fully supported for Windows Server 2008 R2 and thus for SBS 2011 servers.

    Hello,

Possibly the Server didn't complete the installation, the customer is logged in with a Power User without the permission Group Policy Creator Owners.

Missing permissions in the Power User account: Group Policy Creator Owners group

The installation of SEP client should be made with Administrator account.

Use an administrator account for the installation of SEP client and for accessing these utilities or add the appropriate permissions to the privileged user account (Power User).

Possibly simply logging in with Administrator account and attempting to open User Management Console and/or Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) might sort out the issue.

External reference: Delegate creation of Group Policy objects using GPMC

    Hope that helps!!

I am logged on with the administrator account that was created during setup.  There are no other accounts on the server yet.
