Server Offline in SEP client

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi.

 

My problem is described in other posts around the web, but none of the resolutions suggested have helped me.

 

I have created a deployment package using the Deployment Wizard, both for 32-bit and 64-bit. When deploying the 64-bit on the Management Server itself, the server (or... client application ON the server) lights up green, and I can see it in under the right group in the management console. Under Troubleshooting, the Server Name is correct, as well. This is a Small Business Server 2008 Standard.

 

When deploying to the 32-bit xp clients, either manually by installing the package on the client, or by pushing them, the installation is OK. But the server appears as Offline, no green light, and the clients do not appear in the management console.

 

I chose to install a Symantec web application under IIS, not using the default one. Everything seems to have the right settings to me. Anyways - the client on the server itself can connect OK and receives updates, the clients do not.

 

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. This is a freshly installed (and migrated from SBS2003) server. All clients were uninstalled after shutting down the SBS2003 server, and redeployed from the SBS2008.

Check your firewalls.

Check your clients arent using proxies

 

Search the knowledge base for sylinkmonitor and use it on a client to identify any communication issues.

Post the sylinkmonitor logs here. Especially the section where you can see it connecting to http://SEPMANAGER/secars.dll?...........

On the previous domain controller (SBS2003), this worked, and the clients have noe been os-reinstalled. Only difference between now and before, is that SBS2003 is 32-bit and SBS2008 is 64-bit, and that this is release M4, not M3 as was the case with SBS2003.

Actually those random characters look normal in my sylink dumps as well.

I didnt have a dump of an agent trying to register until just now.

 

Any luck resolving things?

Well, the simplest explanation the solution...

 

After trying to access the web server (http://myserver:8014/Reporting) from the local server, with success, the request timed out from the clients. Even telnet failed. So... after adding an exception on port 8014 on the servers firewall, all the clients popped up in the management console...

I've checked everything I can

I've checked everything I can possibly think of and am still missing my "little green light".  Is anyone else still having this issue?  Are there any other suggestions concerning this problem?
