  • 1.  Server status after patch cycle finished - Altiris Patch Mgmt 7

    Hello.

    I have been using Altiris Patch Mgmt 7 for 1 year and I cannot figure out how to do this so I thought I would post the question.

    Is there a way I could send a notification email to myself showing the status of servers after they were patched?  For example:  I set patches to apply to a specific filter.  When the maintenance window opens for that filter the servers get the pending patches.  They automatically reboot after the patch cycle.  If some of those servers don't return to a running state, how can I have the Altiris NS send an email to me advising there is a problem?

    I know I know some of you will say to use another product to monitor server status (ie Nagios, or Whatsup, etc.) but I am trying to figure out if the Altiris agent can trigger an email alert from the Notification Server if the Agent doesn't come back up after being patched.

    Do you use monitor solution?  Gather data (connectivity, Windows service statuses), create a rule (if offline more than 10 minutes or if Service A, B, D, or G is not running), specify a task (send e-mail).

    Have you tried Automation Policies located in Manage - Automation policies page in console? There are a few pre-set patch-related ones already available or you can create one yourself that suites your environment and needs best. To make them work, firstly point to SMTP server in Settings - Notification Server - NS settings and then enable the desired automation policy. If an event described in policy's query happens, e.g. SWU policy fails to install, an email will be dispatched with a notification.
