Server threw an exception (error #80010105 ?)

    Hi-

I am running a new install of Ghost v14 on a Dell laptop, ghosting to a Maxtor USB drive...

The save (always) gets to 94% complete, then I receive a "Server threw an exception" error.  Upon examining the logs, it appears that my error # is 80010105, and possibly involves file VProSvc.exe.

This product has not functioned correctly since being installed, and I have yet to get a good backup.

I have searched the Symantec site and forums, and see errors similar to this one in the BESR area, but not specifically for Ghost.

    Please help!

    Thanks...

I am also seeing the same error message with a new install of Ghost 14 on an LG laptop.

The error that I see is occuring after only a few minutes.

Any information on this error would be helpful.

I am also getting the same message with a new install of Ghost 14.0  while attempting to create a recovery point backup.          Error 800 10 105 running job. Elapsed time: 00:05:04.  Does Symantec know what this error is?

I finally bought a DVD writer to be able to back a machine up, and my first attempt came up with the same thing. Very open to hearing if there is a solution. I'm unable to get access to more DVD's, and only have 2 left, so can't waste them.

    Thanks, Tuc

I have essentially the same problem.  I am running a new installation of Ghost 14 on a new HP m9040n backing up to a Samsung USB drive.  I get to about the same 90+% complete and get the same error message.  I am running Windows Vista 32 bit OS.

Is it backing up to a USB drive that is the issue?   I would love to get this working properly.

    Any help would be appreciated!

I seemed to have resolved this by stopping my use of DL DVDs in my DL capable DVD writer. I fell back to regular DVD-R's and between a few lockups, feeding the same disk in 10 times before it realized it was the one it was asking for, and wasting 6 DVDs I finally got my backup.

New install Ghost 14 on new machine - same symptoms.

The solution for me was to convert my USB connected backup brive from FAT32 to NTFS.

    No problems after that.

I have almost exactly the same setup; Ghost 14, Dell D830, Maxtor USB drive.  I was able to do several backups but now I always seem to get this 80010105 error and haven't found a solution.  I've cleared the recently used documents and that didn't help.  Has anyone gotten an answer from Symantec that corrects this?

Me too. Brand new Dell Vostro with XP SP 2. Backing up to a Seagate POS external drive. I get about 86% complete then its "the server threw back an exceptoion. £50 and half a day gone now. Do Symantec staff actually bother responding on this forum? Perhaps time for a refund and some software that actually works. I can see from Google that thousands of others are experiencing the same thing too. Very poor.

I finally discovered that my problem was because I had run out of space on the device I was backing up to.

I have been getting the "server threw an exception" error 80010105 error and haven't found a solution.  It also seems to be related to other errors I am getting at the same time:  when I try to check or edit a backup, I get "Cannot retrieve backup job properties."    And I get:  "unable to load schedule settings."   Furthermore, I attempted one solution, re-registering Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), but the registration appears to fail.  Essentially, I cannot create a new drive backup or change the settings or schedule of any existing drive backup.  And it still appears that Symantec is not addressing this problem.

    Hello,
Ghost 14 is a completely different product to Ghost Solution Suite.
The following link contains links to the Norton forums: Brief overview of Symantec Ghost and Norton Ghost versions
