All,

I have 5 servers that i am using Ghost Soultions Suite 2.5 (11.5.0.2141) to manage. I have applied all 3 updates manually (this system is not connected to the internet) All are using the WinPE-512 preOS.

I have a single server that will not work correctly. It is an Compaq DL580.

Using the Ghost Console, i can set a image create task for my server in question. The server will reboot to the preOS, obtain an IP, and contact the Ghost Server. However - the ngctw32 command window will pop up and ultimatly get stuck in a loop saying this:

10.0.1.1:1346 disconnecting from 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 sending status to 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 acknowledged by 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 sending status to 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 acknowledged by 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 sending status to 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 acknowledged by 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 sending status to 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 acknowledged by 10.0.1.100:1347
(loop forever....)

... This process will loop continusily, and it will not start the Ghost32.exe and create an image of my server.

However - if i manually goto the \GHOST directory within the preOS and start Ghost32.exe i can connect to the Ghostcast server and make an image.... The darn thing just will not do it on its own... Thats the whole point of having this software for me...

I have tried different drivers templates.. I have tried different preOS environments... I have uninstalled/reinstalled the client several times.... I just dont know what else to try, can someone please provide some help here...

I would say that your NIC

I would say that your NIC driver is incorrect. Can you download latest Vista based driver and add it to Winpe via Ghost boot wizard, Winpe editor. Once compiled you can use this Winpe in Console deployment or for building Winpe-based standalone boot media.

When you say you tried different preOS environment - have you tried PCDOS with UNDI driver or with your specific driver or have you just tried Winpe and Winpe-512?

I have tried both Winpe, and

I have tried both Winpe, and WinPE 512. I have also created my own copy of the Winpe 512, and added W2k3 drivers for this server as no vista drives exist. I followed the instructions on the website on how to update the WinPE image files to a server being cloned numerious time - and it still fails to work.

I know the NIC drivers are working as they are now. I can manually exit the loop of sending status ---- acknowledge status ---... And manually start the ghost process, and it will work just fine.

Any other ideas?

Custom WinPE 2.1 disk

Drumgod,

You may consider trying to create a custom Windows PE 2.1 disk with those Win2k3 drivers. In my experience, WinPE 2.0 (the version in the boot wizard) typically will not work with the Win2k3 drivers, but WinPE 2.1 often will. Here are instructions for creating a custom WinPE disk:

How to build a Windows PE [Vista] CD/DVD that contains Ghost32.exe and then join a client machine to a Ghost Cast Server session to create or restore an image file.

I hope that helps!

Thank you,
