Is it with Solaris 10 local zones?

Can you share output from the command "zonecfg -z <zone_name> info"?

Some points to consider:

Have you performed the hazonesetup for your Service Group?

What is the StartUp attribute set to from your VCS Oracle agent?

When you start the Oracle instance Manually, can you probe the VCS resource to see if detects that it is running?  If so, can you offline/shutdown the database with VCS?

What version of Oracle are you running?

Could you share the relevant VCS engine_A.log snippet?

The above messages indicate that some issue with database shutdown/startup earlier.

Can you list down set of steps you performed to start the database outside of VCS and the time it took for each step.

Also send main.cf/types.cf/OracleTypes.cf located in /etc/VRTSvcs/conf/config directory.

Venkat
