  • 1.  ServiceDesk behind an F5?

In light of the recent "upgrade" versus "new Install" issue with ServiceDesk, does anyone know or is anyone using ServiceDesk behind an F5 load balancer? Specifically the things that we may now want to do include:

    1. Use the F5 for SSL off-load to remove that much more from the server so it doesn't have to do all of the SSL translation.
    2. Front with an F5 so that you can use a serviceURL rather than the server name. (ex: servicedesk.testdom.com is the url that clients connect to but the servername is actually servername.testdom.com)
    3. Load Balance between multiple servers (I don't think we will need to do this but it would be nice to see the results of those out there doing this.)

The idea is that if we need to build and migrate from server to server and DB to DB at each of these "upgrades" then we don't want to keep having to change URLs on our websites and for our customers.

One downfall I can see is that all of the open incidents out there may have emails referring them to a URL that may or may not exist depending on how things get configured. We will have to look at that as the time comes.

From our research we have determined that #3 is not possible.  I am not sure on the others though.
