  • 1.  ServiceDesk unable to retrieve licenses

    At one point in time, this was working, but is no longer working and I'm not aware of what changes may have taken place (besides Windows Updates).  Application Licenses is showing as 0 and GeneralLicenseAvalibility is unchecked.  SMP 7.1 has ~70 ServiceDesk licenses loaded into it.  When loading the License application, I get the following errors in the Application Event Log:

     

    Error,Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:36:46 AM,Unable to reach licensing service method GetLicenseCount() after [3] attempts. Returning license count 0

    Error,Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:36:46 AM,Licensing service unavailable after [3] attempts

    ServiceDesk is configured to connect over SSL using FQDN to the Symantec Management Platform for licensing information.  The ServiceDesk installer version is 7.1.0.14.

    I first noticed this issue when attempting to review another user's ticket that they opened.  I briefly see the ticket before ServiceDesk redirects to a page indicating that the license count is 0.

    Check the Credentials tab of Workflow Explorer and verify that the default SMP settings are correct (domain - if any, user and password) and pointed at your SMP with the ServiceDesk licesnes. If you change them it's a good idea to restart the Symantec Workflow Server service to clear up anything cached.

    The credentials are showing as valid and test valid.  Just in case, I removed it and re-added it and that did not resolve it.  Restarted the Workflow Server service as well, no change.

    That helps, actually.  When attempting to view Licensing.asmx, I get an ASP.NET error:

    Server Error in '/Altiris/ServiceDesk' Application.


    Parser Error

    Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately.

    Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'Symantec.ServiceDesk.Web.Global'.

    same issue - on the SMP server I keep running into time out errors when I am trying to do the licensing.asmx method
