ServiceDesk/Alteris 7 - About to Deploy, Appreciate Help Sizing Hard Disks
Updated: 06 Jul 2010 | 1 comment
Hello,
Am about to roll out Altiris 7 across our organisation and am struggling to find any information as to Database sizes etc.
We will expect to have 1800 users, 2000 nodes, and what i would like to know is - what size hard disks to spec for the servers...
I know i need 4 server so far:
1 X Notification Server
1 X SQL Server
1 X Deployment Server
1 X Servicedesk Server
what i dont know is how much drive space i need.
Will be deploying just about every thing in the Altiris Family - including Antivirus, Client Management, Server Management etc.
Thoughts, Observations and Experiences welcomed.

Hi,
Seeing as no one else has responded..
Altiris 7 Planning and Implementation guide provides some good information on sizing guidelines, you can find the PDF here: https://kb.altiris.com/display/1/kb/article.asp?aid=45803 - this is mostly for CMS 7 though so little or no information on SD7.
For NS7 I usually allow 2GB + 7-8mb per managed endpoint - depending on how many features you're running.
also NS7 inventory data is actually smaller than NS6 due to the way the information is stored in the database.
For NS and DS usually the main consideration is how much space you still need for Application packages and operating system images (remembering that application packages are duplicated onto the package server cache - which there is by default on a new NS installation)
with regards to SD7 I have not been able to find any information regarding Hard disk / database sizing but I've just setup a test environment and can tell you the Process Manager (Ensemble) database is 2.5GB after installation - this is without any migration data but including AD import data for a 3000 user organisation.
our test Setup is simple:
1 SMP/CMS7 server (Win2003 32bit Standard)
1 SD7 Server (Win2003 x64 Standard)
1 SQL 2005 SP2 Server (Ensemble + Symantec_CMDB databases)
installation footprint on the ServiceDesk server is quite small, since it is only a test server the installation was onto the system partition and of the 20GB system partition there is 12GB remaining (so approx 8GB for Win2003 64bit OS files / latest patches + SD7 installation files). This should remain fairly static as information is stored in the database.
Hope this is of assistance..
