In setting up Endpoint Protection Manager, I am asked to setup an email server so that the system can send messages to the administrator.  Since we are a small business and do not have our own mail server, I need to set this up to send it to my email address at aol.com.  Thus far, my best guesses at how to do this have failed.  Can you help me with this basic problem?

Thanks, Pete, for the response.  I had seen that article previously and the information that is received when I hit the help button.  Unfortunately there are no examples of the information needed to fill in the email server page, in particular, the server address and port.  I need an explanation that dummies like me can understand.

The SEPM has a mail relay built in, it can send emails direct without a mail server.

Put the SEPM hostname into the server address field for the email server configuration and click OK.

If you are sending to AOL though, then they may block the email, because its coming from a dynamic address. This would happen if you used a mailserver locally on the PC too.

If it's not necessary to have access to the reports and notifications via AOL, just set up a modest SMTP/POP3 server on your windows box. The SMTP service is a part of IIS.

If you don't want to use the Windows tools, you can google for free or cheap SMTP/POP3 servers. Years ago I was using Mercury ... nice product but I don't know if it's still under development.

Thank you all for your suggestions.  I ended up going to an AOL help page and found the instructions for connecting via an IMAP connections where they provided the necessary STMP address and port #.
