Setting up WPS Pro and SQL server in a new environment

Please let me know if this is posted in the wrong forum.

It seems to me that WPS 7 is a little cumbersome in its implementation, requiring a server, a SQL server install, licensing users on the server, settig up SQL security for the users, and also installing the client and specifying a license key for the client install.. which would be the same as the licensed user on the server...

Are there any FAQ's or tips on setting all of this up?

I have searched these forums, and perhaps I am not looking in the right place, but I just can't find this information.

I am looking for a discussion thread that discusses the installation, configuration, and use of WPS in a client-server environment.

Thanks

Well, that all depends what

Well, that all depends what your requirements are.

Wise also works on XP, with SQL Express 2005.
But I know that's not what you are looking for.

ErikW has posted several articles on Installing WPS.

This is Part 1. Installing and configuring WPS 7.0.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/community/article/...

Many more parts follow, I think it goes up to Part 9 or 10.

I am not sure if there is an article on juice that discusses the installation of SQL and it's securities.

Maybe we can start it here.

If you look in the Altiris

If you look in the Altiris Knowledgebase, http://kb.altiris.com and search on SQL, you will find precise instructions on how to install and configure SQL Express 2005 server to use with WPS.
Equally, you don't actually need to run it from a server - you can install SQL Express and WPS on a standalone workstation (as a server install, not a client install) and use that, if you prefer.
The "Getting Started Guide", which you should also be able to find in the KB, and which is installed with the product as well, gives you a lot of information on the different configuration and installation options from small team to enterprise configurations. Start with the SQL Express install first, and also make sure you install any .NET frameworks you might need, before you install WPS.
If planning to interface with Visual Studio 2005, make sure VS is also installed prior to WPS. Support for VS2008 will hopefully appear in WPS7 SP4

If your issue has been solved, please use the "Mark as Solution" link on the most relevant thread.
