This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi!

The only problem I'm still experiencing with WPS is the fact that performing SetupCapture of 64bit native apps on a 64bit OS doesn't seem to work all that well.
Does anyone know if this is solved in WPS 8, or if there is a reasonable workaround yet?

Not really. The problems we

Not really. The problems we have been experiencing is that SetupCapture crashes intermittently, anywhere during the wizard or wsi creation.
No problems like this have ever occurred on 32 bit.
Server-Client, with Sharepoint and WPSDir+SQL on the same server...

Do you get an application crash dump-file during this event?

I didn't think that Wise

I didn't think that Wise offers any 64 bit capture capability. To my knowledge, the capture engine has never been updated to be a true 64 bit application. WPS 8 does not offer any additional functionality in this area.
Maybe someone else can correct me, but as far as I know, none of the mainstream packaging toolsets offer 64 bit capture capability.

Do you actually have a true 64 bit vendor application that has been packaged using non MSI technology? The reason for the lack of 64 bit capture engines has always been presented as there being no need since all 64 bit apps are native MSI files, and you don't recapture MSI installs.

If your issue has been solved, please use the "Mark as Solution" link on the most relevant thread.

This is what I got from the

This is what I got from the product manager:
WPS does not support the capture of native 64-bit applications.  We do not support this use case because it would require significant modifications to our installation capture code and the vast majority of 64-bit applications come from the vendor in the .MSI package format (and hence, do not need to be repackaged).

Of interest; did you try both snapshot and smartmonitor individually as the latter "only" listen to API calls?

I haven't tried only

I haven't tried only SmartMonitor yet, but the complexity of the applications in question doesn't really make that option viable. I will give it a try, though. I'd love to be wrong here... :-)

Nope...it didn't work with

Nope...it didn't work with SmartMon only either.
I'll just go with mr Grueber's recommendation for msi's and go to "bad and ugly response file mode" for the others as usual.
Thanks for trying, though...
