SFHA Solutions 6.0: Use Cases for administering VxVM disks using vxdisksetup and vxdiskunsetup

Created: 16 Aug 2012

The vxdisksetup command configures the disk for use by Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM). vxdisksetup is called by the vxdiskadd command as part of initial disk configuration. The vxdiskunsetup command reverses the configuration done by vxdisksetup and makes the specified disks unusable by VxVM. vxdiskunsetup can be applied only to VxVM-initialized disks that are not in use within an imported disk group.

The following are use cases for administering VxVM disks using vxdisksetup and vxdiskunsetup:

Provisioning New Storage

Removing a disk from VxVM control

Shredding a VxVM disk

Considerations when using vxdisksetup while performing a disk-group rebuild

How to specify non-default public, and private region offsets, and lengths with the vxdisksetup command
