SFHA Solutions 6.0.1: Sample Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC configurations for global cluster environments

Created: 22 Apr 2013

Global clusters provide the ability to fail over applications between geographically distributed clusters when a disaster occurs. You can set up a primary cluster for replication to a secondary cluster by configuring global Verita Cluster Server (VCS) service groups and using one of the following replication technologies.

  • Veritas Volume Replicator (VVR), which provides host-based volume replication. Using VVR you can replicate data volumes on a shared disk group.
  • Supported hardware-based replication technologies. Using hardware-based replication you can replicate data from a primary array to a secondary array.

For more information on supported replication technologies, see:
Supported replication technologies for global clusters.

SF Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) provides sample global cluster configuration files that illustrate various scenarios. You may use the sample files as a guideline for setting up your global cluster environment. The sample files are located at /etc/VRTSvcs/conf/sample_rac/ and include the following configuration files.

The following table summarizes the replication technologies you can use between sites and where to learn more about them:

Replication technology Sample configuration files For more information, see:
VVR

sfrac07_main.cf describes a disaster recovery configuration for the primary site.

sfrac08_main.cf describes a disaster recovery configuration for the secondary site.

Global cluster setup using VVR for replicating data between sites
EMC Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) techonology

sfrac09_main.cf describes a disaster recovery configuration for the primary site.

sfrac10_main.cf describes a disaster recovery configuration for the secondary site.

Global cluster setup using EMC SRDF technology for replicating data between sites

Note: You can use other supported hardware-based replication technologies with this configuration.

Hitachi True Copy

sfrac12_main.cf file describes a disaster recovery configuration for the primary site.

sfrac13_main.cf file describes a disaster recovery configuration for the secondary site with fire-drill capability.

Note: You can use other supported hardware-based replication technologies with this configuration.
