Shared PST's... how to best handle this
so... I have Project Managers that in the past, have created PST files that contain typically a few thousand e-mails per job with a fairly significant organized folder structure to them. I'm running EV 7.5 SP5 and I don't see a way of giving them the same or better in EV. If I go to a Shared vault, I take away all of their organization of their folder structure as shared vaults just dump all the messages in one bucket. I could always create an Active directory account for their jobs, and then import the PST and give them access that way... that would work I think for past projects, but I dont think that works very well on an active project where the user is activly contributing to the archive. i.e. If I am a user and I want to archive a particular message to another vault I have access to, no problem. If I want to archive a folder to another vault, it doesnt give the option of what vault i want to archive to, it just does it to my vault. Then I have the problem of having to deal with users saying I archived to the wrong vault, how can I get it out of my vault and into the project vault (we dont let them delete from the vault). Does EV8 offer anything better for this scenario? anyone else out there dealing with this? There's no way to share a users vault from a particular folder down is there?
Thanks,
Hi Mr_Anderson In this case,
Hi Mr_Anderson
In this case, it's probably best to create a group mailbox and import the pst there.
This way, it "looks" like a PST file to the user(s) which use the group mailbox, and they can continue to work as they are used to.

but how do they deal with new
but how do they deal with new mail they recieve that they would normally put into a PST file? it needs to go into that group mailbox. They can't select the top Job folder in their mailbox and say archive it to this group mailbox, it goes to their own mailbox without the choice of selecting what vault they want to store in. the only work around I see is to go into every folder and select all the messages and then you get the option of what vault you want to store in. a rather long process for jobs in process right now, but future jobs I suppose wouldnt be as bad. Is this what you were suggesting?
I can just see this turning into a mess though with user error in accidently archiving items to their vault when they wanted them to go to a job/group vault. I do not know of any easy way of getting items out of their vault, and into another vault. With the Export to PST from vault, You can only go 2 folder levels down, I can't go deeper if the mistake was deeper in a folder tree.
No, they would just move the
No, they would just move the incoming message to the Group Mailbox, and EV handles the archiving during the nightly archiving runs.
From a User's point of view, it looks exactly the same as if they were moving it to PST files.

good idea!
That's an idea I hadn't thought of. I'll have to think about that a little more but I think that's the direction to go!.
Thanks!
