    This week, Symantec identified 13 apps, including the advertising module of the Apperhand network and classified them as malignant. It also issued a warning saying that the apps had already infected up to five million Android devices

    There is most definitely a big surge in new threats for the Android platform.  At present there are 68 unique Android detections: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/landing/azlisting.jsp   That is certain to rise quickly this year.

    I have Norton Mobile Security on my own Android phone and recommend that all Android users take similar measures to protect themselves.

    I use Connect to subscribe to new posts that come from "Symantec Security Response" - it is a good way to stay notified whenever there are new developments / threats / etc.
