Deployment Solution

  • 1.  Shutdown and WOL

Last evening I setup a Shutdown Job and ran it on our computers and it worked fine. Then this morning I ran a Wake-up job and that also worked fine.

Now I was going to remote to one and I knew that the person was not there, and the DS console said the computer was on and she was logged on. I powered it on manually, the console still said she was logged on. There are other computers in the organization that seem to not be communicating with the console.

    This is really frustrating.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Jane,
Are you running the AClient or DAgent on the workstations and what version are you using? is this DS 6.9 (with which SP or an even older version) or v7.x?
    Thank, BBC

    Hi Jane,

As with BBC, if we could have a bit more info on the setup that would be great. Useful info would include,

    1. DS Version
    2. Client OS and whether using AClient or DAgent
    3. Whether you deploy Agents as WOL proxies (to allow WOL broadcasts on remote subnets)
    4. The Scope of the problem. Is this random, or is it just limited to machines which are say on a particular subnet
    5. History. Did this always work, and has now stopped working? Have you had firewall upgrades, client upgrades or perhaps even a DS upgrade which you can tentatively link to the issue?
    Kind Regards,
    Ian./

Thanks for all of your kind questions and concern. I finally realized that I could do nothing from the console. I tried to restart the Altiris services and that locked up the server so I rebooted it. I think that was really the problem.

    Sorry to bother you.
