Silverlight 4 install patched but still shows out of compliance

Created: 31 Oct 2012 • Updated: 31 Oct 2012 | 1 comment

I have some machines with Silverlight 4 and they have received the patch from MS12-034 but still show as missing a critical update.

  • Installed Updates report shows the Silverlight 4 update is installed
  • Not Installed Updates report show the Silverlight 5 update is missing
  • Software inventory of the computer confirms only Silverlight 4 is installed
  • WSUS does NOT show this as a required update for these computers.

Why is Altiris flagging the Silverlight 5 update a required update when Silverlight 5 isn't installed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi aschuler,

Microsoft page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2636927 shows this:  “This update offers a new build (version 5.1.10411.0) that is an upgrade to earlier versions of Silverlight.” Probably this is a reason of such behaviour

Also I may suggest that 4.0 is EOL'd already, so if there are some issues related to 4.x, they will be fixed in 5.x, so the latest Silverlight updates are offered to be installed.

Thanks,
Roman
