  • 1.  SIM 7.1.206 errors when creating installation packages

    Posted Aug 02, 2012 10:04 AM

    Dear All,

I get an error when trying to create an installation package upon my Windows 7 SP1 Professional PC:

When looking at the SIM_Metrics_2012_08_02 13_54_13.log I see this:

DATE TIMESTAMP CATEGORY OPERATION DURATION PACKAGECODE PRODUCTGUID

02Aug2012 14:34:30.4687560 SIM Wizard (Mode 'CreatePackage') Launched
02Aug2012 14:51:54.7743660 Summary BEGIN build installation package
02Aug2012 14:51:54.7883678 SIM BEGIN prepare package contents
02Aug2012 14:57:56.4057873 SIM Wizard (Mode 'CreatePackage') Closing
02Aug2012 14:57:56.4207892 Summary ***INCOMPLETE TRANSACTION*** END   build installation package
02Aug2012 14:57:56.4207892 Summary ***INCOMPLETE TRANSACTION*** END   prepare package contents
02Aug2012 14:57:56.4207892 Summary ***INCOMPLETE TRANSACTION*** END   build installation package
02Aug2012 14:57:56.4207892 Summary ***INCOMPLETE TRANSACTION*** END   prepare package contents

02Aug2012 14:57:56.4207892 Summary ***INCOMPLETE TRANSACTIONS IN LOG*** Summary data may not be accurate
    02Aug2012 14:57:56.4207892 Summary TOTAL OVERALL TIME 00:00:00

It seems to be when it has downloaded ALL of the package files to the PC, but when it comes to assemble the packages into an SEA, etc, it stops with that error.

Strangely, this used to work, but another person has said that it does not...

    Anyone know why?

    Dear Symantec,

Further research has found that SIM is not expected to work on Windows 7, however, it can be installed on Win 7 (x64) and mostly functions.

As it is useful for preparing installation packages for servers that are not on the Internet, can we please have it working on Win 7 (again)?

I thought that the SIM "Create Installation Package" function was designed to be used on an Internet-connected PC so that the installation package could be run upon a non-Internet-connected server?

    Kindest regards,

    QuietLeni
