Symantec Management Platform (Notification Server)

Symantec Installation Manager is prompting me to update to version 7.5.121 (from 7.5.92).  Will this new version offer the SMP 7.5 upgrade or am I not going through SIM to upgrade my CMS from 7.1 to 7.5?  Also, if SIM 7.5.121 offers the SMP 7.5 upgrade, will it still show available updates for 7.1?

Just watched the Symantec ITMS 7.5 launch video where it answered my first question (i.e. 7.5 upgrade should be offered via SIM).  I suspect it'll show up once I upgrade SIM to 7.5.121 although can't really say unless I actually try it.

Now what I still don't know is whether SIM 7.5.121 will still show me the available updates for 7.1 if I decide NOT to jump into 7.5 right away.

So were products for 7.1 still visible after update to SIM 7.5?

Answer:

• It will depends on what product list contains. If .pl contains only updates to 7.5, then it will show only 7.5 option, but if .pl will contains updates for 7.1, then there should appear menu to 7.1

As example:

• SIM 7.1.238 is upgraded to 7.5.129, using .pl from solutionsam.
• Now it offers me to choose 7.5 updates from dropdown menu:

If you will have a product list in SIM 7.5.x version, which will contains updates for 7.1 version and you weren't upgraded to 7.5 version yet, then it should allow you to choose 7.1 updates from dropdown menu.

If you have such product list, which contains update for 7.1 products, then you can add this .pl to SIM 7.5 and see whether it will offer you choose 7.1 updates.

Hi, Clint:

From my experience, SIM 7.5.XXX will only accept symantec_v2.pl files (will not accept symantec.pl files) and these files include (at least in the cases I've been working with) metadata from 7.0 till 7.5 HF4 (the latest version available now).

Now it depends on the filters you select to see what you need to install/upgrade :)
